Active Fuel Terminal, AS/MPE/SVE System Construction - Michigan

Job Site Services, Inc. (JSS) was contracted to construct an air sparge (AS), multiphase extraction (MPE) and soil vapor extraction (SVE) system at an active fueling terminal. JSS provided general contracting and construction for the system which was designed and installed to prevent free product and contaminated groundwater from migrating towards wetlands and the shore of Lake Michigan. Construction included concrete removal and replacement, pre-engineered building, mechanical and process piping and equipment, underground and aboveground installation of approximately 40,000 linear feet of process piping installed from 182 MPE, AS and SVE wells to the remediation system.

The project activities were conducted in three phases to enable uninterrupted daily fueling operations of the three bay onsite truck loading rack. Selective demolition and subsequent new concrete construction was completed in such a manner so that at least two loading bays remained operational during the project. JSS worked closely with the project engineer to construct the treatment system according to contract specifications and drawings. JSS played an integral part in field engineering numerous modifications that were required due to changes in field conditions in the most cost effective and timely manner possible. Some of these modifications included relocation of the treatment building and addition of a retaining wall.

Other activities at the site included soil erosion and sediment control (SESC) installation, well point dewatering, abandonment of a UST in place, miscellaneous demolition, and installation of a new fence. Project activities were completed safely with no lost time accidents, incidents, or recordable events.
